The New Norris House is a testament to the "American Dream" of sustainable living, designed and built by University of Tennessee architecture students to meet the highest standards of green building. This project successfully achieved a Platinum rating, largely due to the intentional use of local and reclaimed wood throughout the entire structure.
Our Contribution to the Platinum Standard: While the house features locally sourced white cedar siding and structural wood from North Carolina, we provided the defining interior elements that gave the home its award-winning character:
Custom Reclaimed Flooring: The primary flooring is solid white oak, meticulously reclaimed from century-old Kentucky barns and milled to order by our expert team to ensure unmatched density and a rich, historical patina.
Recycled Truck Bed Countertops: We pushed the boundaries of traditional millwork by transforming reclaimed truck beds into unique, butcher-block style kitchen countertops, proving that every material can find a new, beautiful purpose.
National Recognition: Our commitment to this "totally green" project—including the use of a non-VOC finish for the flooring—helped the New Norris House gain national attention and a feature on the front cover of Hardwood Floors Magazine.
